To doctor or not to doctor?
During my time in Obstetrics and gynecology posting, I performed my first ceaserean section with assistance from a medical officer. I posted pictures of my time in surgery on social media and, as expected, I got so many positive remarks and all of that. I was elated to say the least. At the time of the surgery I was a bit scared and excited but it felt like just another thing. As I looked back at the pictures, remembering the moments in theater, my heart swelled with pride and I was truly HAPPY. As the day ended, with more likes trickling in, I felt a soft pull in my heart…

Housejob Chronicles || Finishing Surgery
By the time you’ll be reading this, I’ll be officially done with the 3rd of 4 compulsory postings in my housemanship year: Surgery. As you’ll know if you’ve followed my housejob journey so far, I completed my first two postings, pediatrics and obs/gyne at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko. I then made a switch to State Specialist Hospital, Akure (now University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Complex, Akure) to complete the rest of the housejob year. Both hospitals are in Ondo State, Nigeria. On resuming at my new work place, I initially thought that I’d start with Medicine posting and Surgery will be my last, but that was not to…

One year post induction; Life lessons and more
You know that two-word phrase ‘time flies’? It seems cliche until you look back and you realise that time actually flies. It’s been 14 months since my final exams in medical school, 12 months since I got inducted into the medical profession, 9 months since I started my internship and 3 months since I officially graduated. These numbers don’t add up and that’s just because of the disfunctionality in the Nigerian system. But today is not about Nigeria. Today is about marking a year since I officially became a doctor! It seems like a century ago and yet it seems like yesterday. Time does fly. I decided to share some…

Living free!
As much as I detest WhatsApp statuses, I’ve actually learnt quite a lot from reading people’s thoughts on there. It makes for a simple medium to share thoughts without much of a hassle. I selectively view statuses and I’m almost always happy with those I choose. Today’s post was inspired by the status updates of two people on my contact list. Both of them are complete strangers to each other having just me as their mutual contact, but they managed to post something similar on their statuses within hours of each other. I decided to share some of my reflections based on their posts. The main point of both posts…

Halfway through the year
Happy new month!!! I can still say that right?, even though we’re at the end of the first week already. Welcome to July and the rest of 2019! I decided to write a post on how my year has been, majorly as a way of checking in on myself and how the year has gone so far. If I were to score myself based on my set goals this year, I’d give me 1.5/10 now. I’ve slacked a lot but one thing I haven’t done is completely giving up on them. I’m also being deliberate about not waiting for a new year to reassess myself and set goals. Every new…
